¿Cuál es la evidencia científica de la eficacia de la ozonoterapia para tratar el coronavirus?

El nuevo síndrome respiratorio agudo severo (COVID-19) producido por un nuevo coronavirus, el SarsCoV2, se ha venido propagando desde el pasado mes de diciembre, alcanzando el estado de pandemia.

A día de hoy (27 de marzo de 2020) se ha confirmado en un total de 465.915 pacientes en todo el mundo. En Europa afecta a 277.297 personas, y en España se han diagnosticado un total de 65.719 casos.

Las tasas de mortalidad están en torno al 3,7%2 y actualmente no hay tratamiento eficaz.

Desde el punto de vista clínico los pacientes graves padecen un síndrome caracterizado por un crecimiento exagerado y una hiperactivación de determinadas células del sistema inmune (histiocitos).

Se produce una tormenta de citoquinas que son sustancias que se vuelven tóxicas contra las células de la sangre, a las que destruyen.

La destrucción de los glóbulos rojos hará que aumente en sangre la ferritina, que se encarga de captar el hierro que éstos llevaban en su interior.

Una fase final de “hiperinflamación” puede llevar a la muerte de algunos individuo.

Eficacia del ozono médico contra los virus

El ozono médico es uno de los mayores germicidas de la naturaleza, y ha demostrado su eficacia contra varios tipos de virus, como el bacteriófago MS2, el virus de Norwalk, el poliovirus 1, el virus de la hepatitis A y el Coxackievirus.

La exposición al ozono médico como protector y reparador del daño orgánico ha demostrado ser eficaz en investigaciones donde se ha visto su potencial para proteger los tejidos hepático, renal, cardíaco, pulmonar, pancreático, muscular, esquelético, intestinal y cerebral.

Esta propiedad demostrada en investigaciones preclínicas se ha constatado en el tratamiento complementario de muchas enfermedades, entre las que tienen interés especial la enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica, el asma bronquial y el enfisema pulmonar.

Con respecto a las afecciones víricas, se han publicado trabajos en herpes virus (simplex y zoster),41-54 virus del SIDA (VIH) 55-60 y hepatitis (B y C).

Además, es de destacar la seguridad que aporta la ozonoterapia bien aplicada.

Según los diferentes test toxicológicos preclínicos siguiendo las normativas de la Food and Drug Administration estadounidense (FDA), de la Organización Mundial de la Salud, y de la Agencia Reguladora Cubana, el ozono médico solamente es nocivo por vía inhalatoria.

Tras cientos de aplicaciones en ensayos clínicos controlados, y en diferentes enfermedades, no se han detectado efectos adversos significativos.

La ozonoterapia mejora el sistema inmunitario

Estos hechos, además de que la ozonoterapia ha demostrado ser capaz de modular el sistema inmunitario, mejorando las defensas de los enfermos, dan pie a hipotetizar que la ozonoterapia podría ser eficaz para tratar el COVID-19.

Realmente, ahora mismo NO HAY NINGUNA EVIDENCIA CIENTÍFICA QUE AVALE QUE LA OZONOTERAPIA SEA EFICAZ PARA TRATAR EL COVID-19, aunque sí es una hipótesis a desarrollar con investigación seria y ensayos clínicos bien diseñados.La Federación Mundial de Ozonoterapia (WFOT) ya ha hecho una propuesta de ensayo clínico, y es público que varios ensayos se están llevando a cabo, o han sido propuestos y aceptados, en China e Italia.

Propuesta de la UCAM y SEOT a las autoridades sanitarias

En España, la Catedra de Ozonoterapia y Dolor Crónico de la Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM), en conjunción con la Sociedad Española de Ozonoterapia (SEOT), han puesto en marcha una propuesta formal, con un diseño adecuado para valorar la eficacia y tolerabilidad de la ozonoterapia sistémica a la hora de tratar a estos pacientes.

Este proyecto se pondrá en conocimiento de las autoridades sanitarias pertinentes.
